Coach or Discipline - What Action is Appropriate
Coaches are described as ". . . setting high expectations, teaching, helping, counseling, inspiring, pushing, and role modeling." Every workday, Managers and Supervisors are asked and expected to function in each of these capacities. For many, this is a dramatic change from the days when they directed work, gave orders and established rules. The new activities require different skills and expertise. There are still times when discipline and warnings are appropriate actions. This workshop will cover both activities and help attendees determine which action is most appropriate for which circumstances. Attendees
will explore:
- The difference between coaching and discipline;
- What are "performance reminders" and how can they be used;
- When is it time to document, and what should be in writing;
- What words make it easier for the employee to really "hear" the message.
Discussion and exercises drawn from actual workplace situations make this an interactive, practical session. Additionally, attendees will receive an extensive handout packet.
